We hope that this letter finds you well and enjoying your holidays with family and friends. We have had a rather tame year by Getzinger standards, which has been a nice change of pace. In order to cut down on refuse and reduce our carbon footprint Kathi and I have been looking into "experience" gifts. For example we took the kids to Disneyland right before Christmas which was a big hit with the 3-9 year old demographic.
We seem to have found another experience that we think will definitely broaden our horizons. We have recently accepted an offer to teach on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. We will be teaching in a small school, which boasts warm weather and monkeys in our backyard. Our camp is located close to Pekanburu.
Sydney is a fourth grader this year. She could not be more excited about our upcoming adventure. She loves everything Animal Planet. She also loves to be on the go. This adventure is right down her ally.
Kade is a first grader. He loves his teacher. (His Mom) He spends most of his time outside and building inventions in our backyard. He is most excited about the airplane ride. I think we may have a future Boeing employee on our hands.
Brooklyn is enjoying preschool. She has blended into our family so well we can't even imagine our family without her. She loves nothing more then playing princess and dolls. I'm not sure but I think she is most looking forward to the Asian food she will be able to get in Sumatra.
John is still teaching at Stanwood Middle School. This is his first year not coaching high school boy's basketball. It has been a tough transition for him. I have the sneaking suspicion that Basketball may make a re-appearance in our lives in Sumatra. More details on that coming soon to a blog near you.
As for Kathi, she is doing well. She is still teaching first grade. "I am excited about our upcoming adventure. Rumor is that there is an orphanage near Pekanbaru. It is my prayer that God would open doors for me to become involved there."
We hope that you all have a safe and happy "New Year" and we look forward to hearing from you.
Love,
John, Kathi, Sydney, Kade and Brooklyn "YoYo"

Well, Hello, Fellow Bloggers!
Are you leaving forever? (As in longer than a summer?)
Gina's mom here. Not being catty or nasty, just curious. How much carbon did you use getting to Disney and riding all of their rides? Hope you had lots of fun. I am taking Gina's girls this summer. Carbon or no.
Your teaching experience sounds like an opportunity of a lifetime. Something the kids will always remember. Good Luck and God's Blessings.
Kathy,
Congrats on your "new adventure". When do you leave? How long will you be gone? It all sounds very exciting. Hope you are doing well. Brooklyn is as cute as ever...and of course Sydney and Kade too.
Take care.
